‘Cookies’ & Collecting Anonymous Information:
We may collect some anonymous information as you browse or interact with our website. This may include, for example:
- The name of the web browser software you are using
- The type of computer you are using
- The name of your Internet service provider
- And other technical information about how you are connecting to our website
By using or interacting our website you agree to us collecting the above information. We regret that if you do not wish for us to collect any anonymous information you must not use our website.
How & why do we use ‘cookies’?
For example, they help us identify whether you have visited our website before or if you are a new user. This allows us to compile accurate statistics of how many people are visiting our website each day and which pages they are most interested in. We can then use this information to improve our website so that we can offer better website features in the future.
What are ‘cookies’?
‘Cookies’ are small files that a website transfers to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser. These files enable us to recognize your browser which allows us to capture and remember certain anonymous information.
For example, many websites rely on ‘cookies’ to keep you logged in even after you leave their website or to remember the items you have already placed in a shopping basket.
How can I manage the ‘cookies’ on my computer?
You can choose to have your computer warn you each time a cookie is being sent, or you can choose to turn off all cookies. You do this through your browser settings. Each browser is a little different, so look at your browser’s help menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies.
When you configure your settings to block ‘cookies’ your browser sends us a ‘do not track signal’ every time it visits our website. We will always honor ‘do not track’ signals and do not track, plant cookies, or employ targeted advertising when we find these browser mechanisms are in place.
What will happen if I turn off ‘cookies’ when browsing your website?
If you tell your browser not to allow cookies you may find some features that make your experience of our website more efficient do not function correctly or are disabled altogether. However, the vast majority of our website should function normally.
What do we do with the anonymous information collected by ‘cookies’?
We may also use trusted third party services that track this information on our behalf. In addition, from time to time we may share this anonymous information with other third parties for marketing, advertising or other uses.
We work with a number of third party vendors, such as Google to serve targeted adverts on our website as a source of revenue. This allows us to cover the costs of maintaining all our free resources.
Primarily, we use Google AdSense advertising on our website. Google Adsense has its own set of advertising requirements and policies which are set out here. These are put in place to provide a positive experience for users.
How do targeted advertising providers use ‘cookies’?
These third party vendors may employ their own ‘cookies’, or in some instances ‘cookies’ developed by other companies (such as the DoubleClick cookie), in order to to compile data regarding user interactions with advert impressions, and other advert service functions as they relate to our website.
For example, Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve targeted adverts to our users based on the fact they have visited our website and other websites on the Internet.
Can I opt out of the Google DART cookie?
Users can set preferences for how Google advertises to you using the Google Ad Settings page. Alternatively, you can opt out by visiting the Network Advertising initiative opt out page or permanently using the Google Analytics Opt Out Browser add on.
